What Is Going On In My Life

by R Smith

Life is exciting!  I’ve been juggling quite a few projects lately.  Thought this might be a good time to let you know some of the things that have been happening and where I have been spending my time.

Tuesday Tech TipsTuesday Tech Tips

Many of you are aware of the joint venture I have with Debbie O’Grady doing the weekly podcast “Tuesday Tech Tips.”   This is a 20 – 30  minute weekly podcast about  technology and apps that are useful for anyone, especially those in business. We record the podcast on Tuesday at 7 and then the recording is placed on our website. The recording is also available on iTunes. It is sort of exciting to search on iTunes for a podcast and see my name come up.   Debbie and I are super excited to be there and look forward to many more podcasts.

Wonderful Women In Business

Last August I met a group of wonderful women at a live event (NAMS workshop) and five of us decided to create a joint venture titled, Wonderful Women In Business.  We met again in Atlanta in February and moved the project forward.   Our mission is to inspire other women to be successful business owners and to help them with the tips and tools to get there.   So far we have a facebook page, and a website. We are working on a series of books and plan to have some podcasts in the future.

Blogging Intern

About two months ago, I was checking email and noticed one from Kelly McCausey from Solo Smarts.   She is a veteran podcaster and I had purchased her Smart Podcasting Skills Course to learn the steps of podcasting.   The e-mail said she was hunting for some interns to write for her blogs and in return they would receive some free training and coaching.    Kelly has a reputation for being a “kick butt” coach and not putting up with excuses, etc.   I felt that would help me to move forward.   I have been learning stuff for over a year, but I needed to do more and I thought this might be a great opportunity.   So I applied for the internship and was accepted.  Interning with Kelly McCausey has been a great experience so far.  It is 15 weeks long and I just completed week three and let me tell you I am learning much!

I am considered a contributing writer for thehouseholdhelper.com blog.  It is a part of the Mom’s Talk Network.  Sort of exciting for me.  I have written three posts so far, each on a very different topic.

My first topic was Companion Gardening, then I wrote about Planning Family Reunions, and then this week I wrote about Laundry tips.

Stretch Yourself Challenge

Because I am interning with Kelly, I also get to participate in some of the courses she is running.  One of them is the “Stretch Yourself Challenge”   Just doing the blog internship has been a stretch for me with everything else.

For the past year I have been in constant learning mode.  I need to be doing more.   So this challenge is helping me to get out of my comfort zone and do a lot of new things. I needed a bit of a kick start.

Small Office/Home Office Coaching Program

I am also involved in the SOHO coaching program with Sandi Krakowski.   She teaches the ins and outs of operating a home business.  Eventually I want my business to replace my current income.  I hope to leave the full-time job early and want a business to retire to.   So this training will help make my dream come true.

So I have been in both learning and doing mode.  Learning new things and putting what I learn into action.

On top of this, I have been recovering from surgery, going to rehab three times per week and still working that full time job.   Also doing the routine things like cleaning house, cooking meals, being a mom, etc.

Needless to say my life has been most busy….but a very, very good busy.  I’m having lots of fun and feel very passionate about life.   I invite you to come visit me at the other blogs, on iTunes, and on the various social networks.   Although I might not have been posting a lot recently I am here and not going anywhere.   You will be seeing me everywhere soon!

So tell me, what have you been up to?  I know some of you have exciting things happening.

Hillbilly Caviar

by R Smith

Also known as Red Neck Caviar!

Did you ever find a recipe that you just love, but are surprised you even like it?  My friend Cindy made this for a church event and I didn’t even want to try it.   Finally I sampled it and loved it.   I begged for the recipe which she shared. It is a very healthy treat and tastes wonderful.  It is great served with Scoops Tortilla Chips or any type of crackers. I took it to work for the guys to try and they all gave it a thumbs up! I thought you might enjoy this tasty recipe.

Great Recipe

Hillbilly Caviar

Hillbilly Caviar

Ingredients

2 cans of blackeyed peas, drained

2 cans she peg corn, drained (use a bag of frozen corn since I couldn’t find the canned)

2 cans Ro-Tel tomatoes, drained

1 can black beans, drained

2 large peppers, chopped

12 small green onions, chopped

3 ripe tomatoes, chopped

1 tsp. garlic powder

1 tsp. garlic salt

1 tsp. parsley flakes

1 16 oz. bottle Zesty Italian Dressing

Mix everything in a bi bowl and refrigerate at least 12 hours. (24 is better)

Serve with scoop tortilla chips or crackers.

This recipe is very flexible.  You can substitute anywhere and it still turns out great!

I have no idea where they came up with the name for this healthy, delicious recipe, but I hope you enjoy it.   Let me know what you think if it in the comments below.
